The Mining Experience Centre was developed to preserve the energy heritage of the Arigna Valley and to ensure that Arigna maintains its link with Energy themes: Past, Present & Future.
This Energy Centre provides visitors with a unique insight into what coal mining life was like in the Arigna Valley, since it’s beginning in the 1700's until closure in 1990.
During our underground tour, visitors will experience what it was like to work in some of the narrowest coal seams in the western world. The tour, which wills last 45 minutes, brings visitors to the mines coalface where the methods used to extract the coal are demonstrated. Lighting and sound effects throughout the mine, add to the reality to the experience.

Enjoy the excitement of horse riding or pony trekking in the beautiful setting of Moorlands Equestrian Centre on the shores of Lough Allen. All your needs are catered for with top quality facilities ensuring that all our riders have an enjoyable and memorable visit.
They provide fully qualified instructors and all horses/ponies are safe and enthusiastic. Weather is never a problem with both indoor and outdoor arenas. Showers, toilets, changing rooms and all equipment is supplied for your convenience.

Fishing

Leitrim is renown for it's fishing with numerous lakes and rivers close to Leitrim Village and in the surrounding area. These are well stocked with pike, perch, bream, tench, eel and trout .
Salmon and trout fishing Lough Melvin and the Douse river are both renown trout & salmon fishing only 30 min drive away.

Hill Walking

Aghacashel is situated between Drumshanbo and Ballinamore (N3 to Ballinamore, N4 to Carrick on Shannon) on the Sliabh - an - Iarainn Mountain, the beautiful rugged mountain in County Leitrim, which ascends 585m from the eastern shore of Lough Allen. Walkers will stand in awe at the breathtaking panoramic views over the West and Midlands of Ireland, or wonder at the amount and variety of flora and fauna encountered - foxes, hares, rabbits, badgers, ravens and Peregrine Falcons. Within minutes from the village is the famous Sheemore with its cross which is light since 1957

Carrick-on-Shannon

Carrick -on-Shannon a short distance away is a busy lively town it has plenty to offer with an excellent Swimming Pool & Leisure Centre, 4 Screen Cinema Complex, Bowling Alley Water sports.

The Dock theatre has a varied and interesting mix of theatre and music.
